10:00-11:00 Putting Yourself on Paper: CVs and Bios
Not sure how to fit your life into a 100 word blurb, or decide what to include on your CV? All dance artists will be faced with having to provide a CV and short bio for performance programs, grant applications, auditions… the list goes on. Get the basics on how to shape a professional, succinct and comprehensive personal package in this workshop.
Presenters: Andrea Gunnlaugson and Heather Campbell are the DTRC-BC Office Administrators.
11:15-12:15 Nutrition for Dancers
This workshop focuses on the specific needs that dancers have at a competitive, semi-professional and professional level, such as what to eat before, during and after training; How to decrease inflammation and injuries; discussion of what essential fatty acids are and the importance of antioxidants; benefits of water and fluid intake; and how to create healthy eating habits
Presenter: Dancer, choreographer and teacher Cristina Bucci completed her studies at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and attained the professional designation as Registered Holistic Nutritionist (R.H.N.) in 2007.
12:15-1:15 Lunch (Provided by the conference)
1:15-2:15 Injury Prevention
In this workshop, we will be examining the most common injuries occurring in dancers, preventative care, and good maintenance for chronic or recurring injuries. A focus will be brought to the feet, knees, hips, and sacro-iliac joint.
Presenter: Adrienne Leggett holds a master's degree from the University of Toronto's Physical Therapy program, as well as an undergraduate degree in Dance from Ryerson University. Her experience working through injuries as a dancer led Adrienne to her new career in physiotherapy.
2:30-3:30 Movement class: C-I Training™
C-I Training (conditioning-with-imagery) is a body conditioning system designed for dancers. It incorporates exercises and imagery work to develop strength and flexibility, and to improve alignment and mind-body connections. C-I Training™ provides the dancer with an excellent daily warm-up, and promotes improved dance technique and prevention of dance injuries.
Presenter: Andrea Downie is a dance educator and researcher. She is currently completing her Masters degree in Dance through York University. She also has a BFA in Dance and has completed the professional training program at Dance New Amsterdam in New York City. In addition to being a certified teacher of the Simonson Technique, Andrea is also a certified teacher of C-I Training™ and the C-I Training™ Course Administrator. Andrea is on the founding committee for Healthy Dancer Canada and a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine & Science.
3:45-5:00 Thriving Under Pressure
Pressure has always been an essential part of professional dance. The difference between a good dancer and a great dancer is the ability to accept pressure and rise to the occasion at pivotal moments. In this workshop, dancers will develop a greater understanding of the coping strategies needed to successfully handle pressure, specifically the use of relaxation and imagery skills.
Presenter: A two-time Olympic gold medal winner, Kirsten Barnes is currently the Mental Performance Consultant for the Canadian Sport Centre Pacific.

We’ll talk about options for the next step in your dance career, be it university, auditions, grant proposals or summer schools and further training
