The focus of this year's conference is “your diverse dance career”.

Gain practical advice and skills for the multi-faceted career that so many dance artists balance today.

  • ongoing training
  • managing a business
  • grant writing to support your creativity, and
  • a roundtable on the diverse styles of dance found in the professional milieu,

on the MOVE is FREE for all participants, but pre-registration is required.

9:30-10:15 Welcome
With Vancouver’s arts service organizations and special guest Emily Molnar, interim Artistic Director of Ballet BC.

10:25-11:15 A sustainable career in the arts
Dawn Bennett of Australia’s Curtin University speaks about how to balance the many skills that artists have in order to have a long, healthy career in the arts.

11:30-12:15 Teaching
Miranda Widgery-Webber, director of Perform Art Studios’ teacher training program, speaks on teacher training, teaching standards, job options and pay expectations in Canada and abroad.

12:15-1:30 Lunch- at the Foundation, 2301 Main Street.
Lunch is vegetarian, and is provided by the conference.

1:30-2:30 Funding your Creativity
Learn about funding options and tips for writing grants from the Vancouver Foundation and BC Arts Council

2:40-3:20 Managing
Learn about the business side of the arts as we talk about contracts with CADA–BC and other dance business skills

3:30-4:15 Diversifying
A roundtable featuring members of Vancouver’s dance community discussing the diversity in dance styles, venues, media and career options.

4:20-5:20 Balancing
Wind down with Yoga for Dancers with Jacqui Fownes

5:20-5:45 Next Steps
We review some highlights of the day and talk about how to incorporate new knowledge and goals into daily training, performing and living.
